Influence of Friction Stir Welding Process on the Mechanical Characteristics of the Hybrid Joints AA2198-T8 to AA2024-T3

The study presents the hybrid joining of third generation AA2198-T8 aluminum lithium alloy to AA2024-T3 copper alloy, which has been highly demanded recently in aerospace industry. This investigation aims reduce cost production industrial sector. As a result, an affordable alternative is use designs using crucial parts and rest structure. A method required create structures composed last-generation standard alloys. process was successfully friction stir-welded five different welding travel speeds—36, 76, 102, 146, 216 mm/min—with invariable spindle speed 960 rev/min. Two reversed steps, double-sided stir (DS-FSW) single-sided (SS-FSW) techniques with two appropriate tool designs, were employed investigate dissimilar material mechanical properties their morphological changes. experimental outcomes show that DS-FSW steps higher strength than SS-FSW for all parameters studied. variation speeds provided highest at 102 mm/min DS-FSW. Therefore, it found that, from three tensile samples, strength, yield elongation joint 407.1 MPa, 271.2 9.5%, respectively. efficiency reached 87% compared base AA2024-T3. Furthermore, fractures samples vicinity thermomechanically affected zone (TMAZ) side. microhardness morphology results correspondingly have precise predictions fracture joints this research examination.
